Over the last week, my class and I have been making boomerangs because we have been learning about Migration. We had to do some research about what the indigenous people of Australia used to kill animals so they could get food with. We learnt about the designs and the purposes.
1. Explain the purpose of the activity?
The purpose is to see how they would throw the boomerang that would kill/ injure their prey and to learn about the indigenous people
2. Explain the story on your boomerangs, including the meaning of the colors
I chose black and white because throughout night and day, they continue to work, to harvest their crops or make their houses
3. What went well when painting your boomerang?
Using all of the different colors to make it unique

English Workshop 2 about the hunger games
Keyword: Atmosphere, Mood - how you feel in the surroundings
1. Reaping scene - District 12
Dull colors - over worn
People all walking at the same pace
Effie shows up in a purple dress
Most girls have braided hair
Boys have short hair
Girls wear dresses and skirts
Boys wear shirts and trousers
Everyone is all equal by what they wear
They are scared of being reaped
Tension
Sorry for them
Life is hard
They are poor
They don't get health care
2. Capital
Lots of vibrant color dresses and tuxedo's
Nobody looks the same
Excessive make-up on men and women
Capital use more advanced tech to create their clothing
Easy to live
Wealthy
Capital is able to get a cream that can heal you over time
3. Beginning of arena
Dull colors - camouflage - grey's, blacks, greens
Jackets, cargo's, T-shirt, hiking boots
All look the same - makes it easier to watch them die
Themes:
Hope & Rebellion
Rich vs Poor
The poor aren't favored to win the hunger games
The director makes us despise the capital
In the Reaping scene costume is used effectively to show the imbalance between the rich and poor of Panam. For instance, the children of district 12 all look the alike in dull, simple and over worn clothing. In contrast, Effie Trinkett arrives wearing bright colors, a large wig and headpiece and excessive make-up. This makes the audience feel sorry for the people of District 12 because Effie is a symbol of the wealth in the capital. We see that not everyone lives in poverty. The director did this to show the hard life of those in Katniss's home district. Coinciding with is Effie's behavior. She is loud, happy and confident while the people of the district are quiet and scared. This can be juxtaposed to the scene where Katniss and Peeta arrive in the Capital. In this scene everyone else is rich and clean and they are the different ones.

The male tribute selected was Peeta. Silence is used when Effie draws out and reads the tributes names to make us feel like the moment is real, to make us focus and draw out the suspense. The director has done this to make the audience worried about who will be chosen. Music was used to introduce the audience to Peeta's name is drawn. The music is predominatntly minor and has a slow tempo which makes us feel sad and worried like Peeta. This is combined with close- ups of Peetas worried facial expressions to draw the viewer in
